Why Solo Women Travel Is Growing

By Dorothy Foster

These days, more and more women are on the road, traveling on their own. In the past, they joined up with coach tours and with other people in groups. But solo women travel is something which has grown in a big way. There are so many places to explore, and so many things that one can do in different parts of the world.

Age is not a factor either. There are people over sixty who keep on taking adventures to daring places where even couples will not venture off to. This may happen after a spouse dies and they want to reshape their lives and try something new. A person also decides to explore areas of the world after they have finished school or college and simply want to let go.

A lot of young women, especially will head off this way for as long as a year to work in a school, teaching English to kids. They may help in the community, doing some farming. When they volunteer they will have a place to stay. At times, they will stay with families, and this can be an experience which they won't forget about. It can enrich their lives.

This is often why it is called the university of life. You can go to university and learn about a subject of your choice. But you won't actually get to experience it in a far off place until you go there. This is a first hand experience which will provide you with many memories. There will be challenges along the way, but this is how you learn and gain confidence.

It may be a little daunting, going on your first solo trip. However, when you have a plan on the first trip, then you will know where to go and what you want to do. You will not have any disasters. When you have a massive disaster on your first trip, it can be a problem. You may lose some confidence. However, as you become more accustomed to this, you will find that challenges are part of the process.

Traveling like this has been said to be the university of life. Young women are encouraged to take part in a journey which is safe should she be on a gap year. Often, young people don't have an idea of what they want to do. As they have different experiences in their travels, they also get a better idea of what they want to do. They will also get to build their character.

Many people become more sure of themselves. They build confidence and self esteem. A lot of people decide to take the challenge at a time of their life when things are not going well for them. However, things begin to change as they begin to have positive experiences as well as those which can be challenging but which build confidence at the same time.

One gets a lot of freedom by learning to make choices and decisions. It can be the best thing to decide to travel solo when you don't like making decisions for other people. It can be a real nuisance being held up by a travel partner. They can let you down. Often, you just want to do your own thing, and it gives you a chance to meet a range of other people.
