What You Need To Know Concerning High Intensity Tower Lighting

By Steven Foster

As a matter of fact, tall structures without indicators that they exist may pose a major threat to the life of passengers in an aircraft. Many people have perished as a result of airplanes and choppers hitting tall surfaces like mountains and hills. That is why any structure or building whose height is two hundred feet or above high is required to have a signal that indicates the height so that the pilot in any low flying aircraft can see it. Proper illumination can be achieved through installation of high intensity tower lighting systems.

Towers are simply structures that are tall and their thicknesses are usually un-proportional to their height. However, people often confuse such structures with masts. Masts, however, contain guy-wires used for supporting them. The structures are again distinguished from other buildings since they are usually not intended for residence. Instead, they are used for other functions such as indicating time using clocks.

They may be constructed for different reasons and to serve different purposes. For instance, they may be constructed to indicate time through fixing of a clock. Aerial cameras can also be fixed on top for surveillance and defensive security purposes.

Tower lights are lighting devices with high intensity that remain attached to tall structures with the primary role of avoiding collisions from flying bodies. These lamps make the structures more visible to flying planes and aircrafts passing by. These devices are usually used during the night although some also use them during the daytime. The lights should have the ability to provide sufficient brightness so that even in distant miles, one can see them.

They are lamps that make the structure to be clearly visible to the passing by planes. The lamps in most cases will be used at night though other people use them during the day. These lamps are supposed to produce brightness that is sufficient so that a person can notice them even when far.

There are, however, other minor lighting options available. Such are the obstruction lights that usually have a constant illumination. The red beacons or the strobes often use incandescent filament bulbs that usually have a short lifespan. There are also medium and the high-intensity white strobes lights. The medium intensity strobes are used on 250 feet buildings and the high-intensity ones are used in 700 feet buildings.

The second major type is known as white-xenon discharge or flash. They are lamps whose popularity is still underway but constantly growing. Apart from these two major types, other minor types include, obstruction lights whose red illumination is constant, red strobes and beacons that function as a result of incandescent filaments as well as medium and high-intensity strobe lamps which in most cases produce white illumination.

There are certain benefits associated with installing and fixing these lamps. First, they provide signaling that indicates the presence of a tall structure which eliminates cases of accidents and collisions. Fixing the lamps also means complying with aviation laws which make you not to be prosecuted or charged due to noncompliance.
