Trailers serve different purposes to different people. No matter your reason for living in a trailer, you need to ensure that it is stored properly. Do not just assume that it will be in the exact condition you leave it in when you come back after a long time if you did not prepare for the storage. Read on for tips on proper trailer storage.

You should not lock up a dirty trailer. Cleaning it up is crucial. Even if you cannot do this on your own, you can even get help. A thorough cleaning should be done on the final day of your stay in the trailer. Any broken seals should be repaired and waxing done on all of them. It keeps dirt and sun damage at bay. Worn out items should be replaced also.

Do not ever leave the container with poor ventilation. Moisture will accumulate leading to mildew growth. It is demanding and expensive to deal with mold issues. Mold will also make the space to have a funny smell. The number of vents installed will depend on the size of the container. Placing them on the roof ensures efficiency and also keeps rain from getting inside the trailer.

Having blinds and curtains also minimizes the chances that any kind of fungi will grow inside the container. Ensure the window blinds are translucent so that the required amount of light gets inside the space. When everything is dark, you will come back to surprising large amount of mold all over the space.

Items which are slide-outs should be retracted before the storage. The rubber seals, slide toppers, roof and mechanical parts will not be damaged when retracted. However, it will not be the case when left in place. A corrosion protector has to be applied in order to protect against corrosion. Baby powder can be applied in-between to ensure that they do not stick together.

Pests are a menace all over the world. Depending on the kind you are dealing with, appropriate measures should be taken to keep them off. If there are external openings, it is mandatory for you to seal them. Bugs like to hide in piping systems, exhausts of furnaces, the outer part of the vent and even plumbing vents. Check the spots just to be safe.

Gadgets which are powered by electricity must be turned off. Also, all the lights in the trailer should be switched off. The main system can be turned off if the electrical energy is not needed by any crucial system. In case of batteries, wires must be disconnected so that the battery energy does not get drained off. There is no point in using a lot of money in power when it is not serving you in any way.

Temperatures have a big role to play when it comes to the plumbing condition. Too low or high temperatures will leave the pipes burst. Thus, you need to assess the condition to determine whether there will be any water in the pipes or not when you lock up the container. The repairs are expensive and it is an expense you can avoid.
